Meet Sean

Sean Henry Miller is a nonprofit leader and Adjunct Professor at NYU Wagner Graduate School of Public Service. His career in public service began as a teacher and coach, then as a staff member at Princeton University, before driving policy changes to improve education, ensure equity, and fight for economic fairness at the Bayard Rustin Center for Social Justice. Through supporting students across the world, he has seen firsthand how hard families work to provide a quality education for their children and how much better we can do to ensure that every child has the support they need to succeed. Sean knows that a good education and healthcare are human rights, not things that should be determined by income. That’s why he’s spent over a decade taking on tough fights for students, workers, and families.

At Harlem Children’s Zone, Sean co-led a groundbreaking college completion program, fighting to make sure first-generation students could affordably finish their degree. In his current position as the Regional Director at an education nonprofit, he’s delivered over 30 policy wins, collaborating with coalitions and legislators to make New York more affordable, safe, and healthy. This includes legislation and budget items that expand college affordability, improve healthcare coverage, defend reproductive rights and freedom, provide life-saving mental health services, and expand workforce development and trade programs.  He has also helped to address and eliminate medical  debt and homelessness, developed a more equitable higher education funding model for New York State, and trained over 150 diverse student leaders to fight for their communities.

As a leader within both the Queens County and New York State Young Democrats, Sean knows it’s time for a new generation to step up and make the Democratic Party the party of the people again. We must be bold fighters , not the party of the same old, same old. We need leaders in Albany who will stand with courage and conviction - to defend our healthcare, schools and teachers, our families, our rights, and our freedom.

Sean is a proud Astorian, cat dad, and leader in both the Queens County and New York State Young Democrats. He is running for State Senate to bring the fight for schools, housing, and medical affordability to Albany, and deliver for working folks and families throughout both The World's Borough and The Empire State.
